The Story:

The Library Between Seconds

There exists a place stitched between the seconds of every ticking clock — a space where lost possibilities live.
Not a library in the conventional sense, but an endless gallery of books you almost wrote, lives you almost lived, words you almost said.

Mira first stumbled upon it during an afternoon so ordinary that it hummed with boredom.
She was crossing an intersection, the pedestrian light flashing its impatient countdown, when a strange glimmer pulled at the corner of her eye.
Turning, she found herself not in the street but inside a cavernous, silent library, the ceiling so high it disappeared into mist.

Rows upon rows of books stretched out before her, their titles shimmering faintly.
"The Day You Spoke Up."
"The Love You Never Confessed."
"The Adventure You Refused."

She moved forward, almost reverently, her fingers grazing the spines.
Each book, when opened, unfolded a vivid, breathing version of herself — brave, reckless, tender, cold.
She watched herself stay at the café longer and meet a lifelong friend.
She saw herself turn left instead of right and discover a tiny music shop where a different life began.

The librarian — if he could be called that — appeared suddenly.
An old man, wearing a clock face instead of a head, his voice was a ticking sound Mira somehow understood.

"Each second hides a door. Few notice. Fewer still enter."

Mira asked, her voice barely a whisper,

"Can I... choose one? Live one?"

The librarian ticked thoughtfully.

"You may visit. But choices, once shelved, are brittle things."

Still, Mira couldn’t resist.
She reached for a book titled "The Moment You Believed in Yourself."
The cover pulsed warmly under her touch.
And just as she cracked the spine open —
the world snapped back.

The crosswalk beeped. Cars idled. People passed.
But something had shifted.
In her chest, a small, stubborn flame had been lit.

Mira smiled.

She would not miss her next doorway.

Not anymore.
