…She stood at the platform... arms wrapped tightly... the night colder than usual...

…He approached slowly… hesitant… hands buried deep in his pockets…

…No words… only the clatter of the departing train…

…Their eyes met… not in anger… not in forgiveness… something else…

…A breeze fluttered the letter he never sent… it skidded across the pavement… unread…

…She smiled… a small, tired smile…

…He tried to speak… the words snagged in his throat…

…A child's laughter from the far end of the station… echoing… fading…

…He stepped closer… she stepped back…

…Silence folded between them like a heavy woolen blanket…

…The train horn blared… drowning everything…

…In the final moment… a nod… barely perceptible…

…And then… she was gone…

…And he… remained.
